My island Pico: July 2013

Far away from the "civilization" Azores is a perfect place for the one's who just want to get away from the noise, the city, to find the peace of mind, and want to enjoy staying real close to the fascinating nature and to their partners they are travelling with. This is one of the reasons why so many honeymooners choose Pico island and start their new phase of life here with us - so did Peter Buck, guitarist of R.E.M., owner of the famous white guitar of Kurt Cobain, legendary actor of recent music history do, who came to our small island fresh married.

And probably he is not the only celebrity who pointed on the map and choosed this place to hide, middle of nowhere.

Beside some highlights like ex-yacht of Steve Jobs, designed by Philippe Starck, cruising along azorean coast some weeks ago, the island has it's own "celebrities", who are not easy to recognize though.

Távol az utcai reklámok, szórólapok földjétől, a város zajától, Pico tökéletes célpont azoknak, akik a természet közelségére és nyugodt mindennapokra vágynak, hisz itt igazán elmerülhetnek saját kis világukban. Valószínűleg ez is az okok egyike, amiért annyi szerelmespár tölti nálunk a mézesheteit - Peter Buck páldául, az egykori R.E.M. oszlopos figurája, Kurt Cobain híres fehér gitárjának tulajdonosa. És nem ő az egyetlen híresség, aki rejtőzködni jött a szigetre napokra, hetekre, örökre. Sokukat én sem detektálom rögvest, csak némi fáziskéséssel, így többek között igazán sajnálom, hogy elszalasztottam a Philippe Starck tervezte, egykoron Steve Jobs tulajdonában lévő yacht látványát, amely hetekkel ezelőtt a környékbeli vizeket szelte.

After finishing my life in Budapest and before starting the new one in Azores, spent some days in lovely Lisbon to see again the city and friends. Rui advised to visit the exhibition of Sena da Silva in any case, the portuguese Henri Cartier-Bresson, who is known not only as a photographer capturing the atmosphere of lusitanian daily lifes, but held as the establisher of creating the fundamentals of portuguese design. And what is the link between him and my island Pico?

Budapesti életet otthagyva, azorit még nem megkezdve, adtam magamnak pár nap pihenőt a csodálatos Lisszabonban, hogy újra lássam a várost, a barátokat. És Rui tanácsára egy egész délelőttöt a portugál Henri Cartier-Bressonként is ismert Sena da Silva kiállításának szenteltem, aki nem csak arról híres, hogy a portugál mindennapokat meséli el fényképekbe öntve, hanem egyben a luzitán design alapjainak megalkotója is. És mi a kapcsolat közte és a szigetem között?

Sena da Silva's son, António Sena, writer of the one and only book of history of portuguese photography (Uma história de fotografia), lives here, in the village next to ours. Besides his recent hobby - farming and cowing - the big love are the books, every week he comes to Lajes to the post office to pick the new deliveries for his book shelf. And do you know what? On the top of his van there is huge box to store and transport things. What do you think, what is inside?

Naponta betér a falunkba, Lajesbe, jön a postára az új könyvekért, hisz a mezőgazdaság mellett a nagy szerelem a könyvespolc.
